(Glenn) Leaving our hotel this morning in Albuquerque, we enjoyed the sky filled with hot air balloons. We rode the bike to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National monument. It is a smaller and lessor known national monument. A past volcano covered the sandstone in the area with a solid cap of volcanic ash and rock. The sandstone beneath this cap eroded at a faster rate and resulted in some unusual shapes, landscape features, and uniqely patterned cliff faces. We walked some of the trails but did not stay very long. We rolled into Santa Fe, NM about noon and went directly to the plaza shops about two blocks from our hotel. You can see Cathy's smile in the candid photo I captured of her shopping at the plaza. We visited Lorett I lived o Chapel to see the "miracle staircase" built in the 1800's by a mysterious carpenter who passed into town and built this perfect staircase with no center support. Street vendors fed us roasted corn, chicken green chili tamales, and carnitas for a great dinner in the park area of the plaza. We visited the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and watched some of a choral concert that was being presented. I like the looks of this cute area. Plenty of personality in this town with food vendors, street musicians, restaurants, and cute shops. I just wish someone would do something about all of those darn jewelry stores-they make up half the stores we have seen (LOL).
(Cathy) I loved seeing the balloons again. Winds have to be almost perfect. Not too little and not too much. The large heavier balloons like a light wind, that was their problem yesterday. They were really spread out today. One balloon we saw had floated off so far it looked like was in another state. Wouldn't want to be on that balloon. Glenn said if I had really really wanted to ride in a balloon, he would have paid for it. That would be better than that new purse and shoes. I would have never forgotten that but you don't remember shoes and purses 20 years later. He's a jewel and I will remember that forever.
And the tent rocks monument was interesting but don't go too far way out of your way to see it. Lot like Bryce Canyon with their hoodoos. But you are still amazed at what God has made for us to enjoy.
