(Glenn) We hit the road early today attempting to put some miles behind us before the heat set in. We enjoyed the mid 70's for a little while but later traveled in the mid 90's and it hit 104 degrees at one time. At one of the gas stations, the people running the station "just loved our accent" and kept the conversation going just to hear us speak. She asked me if their accent sounded odd to me. She even asked me to sing a country song- funny, but I was not sure how to take that. Our destination today was Joshua Tree National Park to see a Joshua tree or a thousand. They are unusual plants (not really a tree) related to the yucca plant. Many arms with spiked foliage. We were more amazed by the rock formations here in this area of the Mojave Desert. Cathy agreed to hike with me in the desert in Hidden Canyon and we did about a mile through the rocks and hills. We had the park to ourselves today (who else is fool enough to ride a motorcycle and hike the Mohave Desert in August?) and it was so quiet, peaceful, and spectacular and unusual views. We were very happy to check into our hotel in Twentynine Palms, California. I brought a pizza from across the street for lunch/dinner and we plan to relax tonight enjoying the air conditioned room. Tomorrow we finally leave California and head to Las Vegas for four nights.
(Cathy) We started walking down the street for BBQ ribs. It was still so hot and rib place just looked so far away, I said "pizza sounds real good"-it was right across the street.. I just don't understand who wants to live here-too hot and too dry. Summer is traditionally the quiet season in Joshua Tree. Why didn't someone tell Glenn? It was fascinating going into Hidden Canyon. Rustlers used to hide rustled cattle there before rebranding. We just couldn't figure out how they got cattle in and out. I can tell you one thing...our ancestors were TOUGH🌵
