(Glenn) We are staying about 30 miles outside of the Yosemite National Park in Groveland, California. After breakfast, we rode into the park and spent all of the morning in the valley of the park. It has been hot and dry so there was very little water was flowing over any of the waterfalls. Many forests were dry and some some had been through some recent fires. The large granite formations of El Capitan and Half Dome were spectacular and the best views we had were at Glacier Point looking down into the valley. We climbed onto a rock and had a great photo with Half Dome in the background. We were not impressed with the rivers, waterfalls, or forests of Yosemite but the steep cliffs and rock formations created a view that could not be missed. These hot temperatures are pushing us back to the cooler Pacific coast tomorrow as we drive to Sausalito, California for a few days.
(Cathy)We saw the park several years ago when it was at its peak. The falls were fabulous and the park was green. Going thru a tough time right now. The draught is really tough on the park right now. I am going to have some pics with hair! Tired of helmet hair.
Talked to one of the locals at the park and he was talking about the high price of homes. He said Asians were out biding Californians on a lot of the homes and running up the prices. He didn't seem too happy about it. He even said some parts of California were nutty. My kind of guy. He had his daughter with him, she was about 6. He said she had never heard a southern accent before meeting us. Funny
